Peter S. Grosscup was born at Ashland where his
primary education was gained in the local public school. Subsequently he
graduated at Springfield and then began the study of law with Osborne &
Kinney at his home. After being admitted to the bar he formed a
partnership with Judge Kinney, the firm name being Kinney & Grosscup.
About 12 years ago he wanted the Republicans to nominate him for congress.
Rollin A. Horr got this nomination, but didn't get any further. Grosscup
married a daughter of Deacon Taylor, the grain merchant of Loudonville. In
1885 or 1886 he removed to Chicago and began practice there with Leonard Swett,
a former partner of President Lincoln.
