LOUDONVILLE Rev. Anderson and wife went to Wooster to-day to attend commencement. W.O. Collins and Mr. Leiter, of Lucas, were among the visiting Masons in town last night. Misses Frank Danner, Nora Bender, Mae & Jennie Larkins, of Butler, drove over to Loudonville Sunday. Rev. T. Struggles, wife and son Willis, attended the marriage of George Struggles, of Cleveland, and Miss Mary Liggett, solemnized at Canal Fulton on June 5th. Clint Coulter, of Mansfield, distinguished himself at Syracuse, N.Y. yesterday, winning the mile open bicycle race from Zigler, Dirnberger and the two-Johnsons, the fastest riders in the country. Coulter's time for the mile was 2:08 2-5, the fastest mile ever ridden in New York state in a race. A serious accident occurred near the Cooper Shop on Tuesday. Miss Lizzie Guthrie, a sister of Mrs. John Kindle, was driving a spirited horse and was accompanied by sons of Mr. Kindle and Nich. Young. Near the Cooper Shop one of the lines became unfastened and the horse ran into the barbed wire fence, upset the buggy and threw the occupants out. The damage fortunately consisted of a few bruises and a broken buggy. Born to Clark Lutz and wife, on last Thursday, a boy. Emil Bolly and wife visited friends in Mansfield over Sunday. Mrs. E.F. Shelley visited Mansfield friends several days last week. Charley Sprang and Phillip Sprang made a trip to Lake Erie after fish last week. Mrs. George Crowell, of Ashland, daughter of Mrs. Dr. McClain, visited here last week. Mrs. D.D. Paulis was taken seriously sick with an affection of the heart Tuesday morning. A young daughter arrived at the home of F.N. Patterson in Ashland on Tuesday. All doing well. Miss Stella Leopold and Carl Stitzel, of Loudonville, were the guests of A.R. Eyster last week. -- Brink Haven News. Mr. & Mrs. Golding, of Greenwich, returned home last week from a pleasant visit with their daughter, Mrs. E.W. Miles. Miss Grace Hubbard, of Crestline, daughter of Trainmaster Hubbard of the P.F. railroad, was the guest of Miss Golda Priest this week. The remains of Herbert Thompson, a former Loudonville boy, were interred at Mansfield on Monday forenoon. Mention of his death appears elsewhere in this issue. On Saturday A.A. McNeil, superintendent of the Hanover Twp. schools, started for his home in Richfield, Summit County. Mr. McNeil has been teaching in this township for the past two years and is requested to remain in the same school next year. Mrs. J. Eaton and two children of Cambridge, are guests of Mr. and Mrs. T.H. Parkison. Phil Loew, of Navarre, spent Sunday with his family who are guests of J.A. Stitzel, Sr., and family. Ed and Emma Brecheisen attended the graduation exercises of Miss Mary Brecheisen at Wooster last week. Adam W. Barnhart, living near McZena, rejoices over the arrival of a young daughter at his home on Tuesday, the 11th. inst. J.W. Myers and brother, of Ashland, were awarded the contract of building the new infirmary for Holmes County. The buildings are to be completed by November 1st., at a cost of $26,000. Earl Weirick is home after a two-months stay in Canton. Mrs. D.D. Paullis has returned from a short visit with her father in Wooster. Attorney C.I. Goard attended the funeral of Frederick Fox, of Hayesville, last Sabbath afternoon. Miss Lulu Schmidt is visiting Millersburg friends this week. Herbert Thompson, aged 18 years, a son of Thomas and Sarah Thompson, formerly of Loudonville, died on Saturday at his home in Auburndale, a suburb of Toledo. F.M. Petot and wife entertained a number of friends Tuesday evening. M.S. Culbertson, Marshal Conrad and Jake Smith were in Mansfield on Tuesday. Mrs. G.A. Artz of Plymouth, is the guest of her parents, Mr. & Mrs. J.B. Long. Miss Vofargue, trimmer in Mrs. Prutzman's millinery store, returned to Cleveland on Monday. Miss Mary Anderson went to Wooster Monday morning to attend college commencement exercises. R.P. Wallace went to Sandusky on Tuesday to attend the annual state encampment of the G.A.R. Julius Stoelzel has accepted a position in J.F. Frangkiser's drug store.

HAYESVILLE The festival at George Dudte's was well attended but very few took part in the eating of the ice cream and cake. PERRYSVILLE A brother-in-law of Rev. Castle was his guest over Sunday. Miss McCready, of near Hayesville, has been the guest of Miss Della Covert. Edward Hunter is learning telegraphy with the night operator at the tower. Mr. & Mrs. David McClure were guests of Ashland friends several days last week. Harry Gladden and Johnny Hunter rode to a point on the Walhonding about 25 miles from here, in two hours and forty minutes. Mrs. Mollie Clugh, while visiting at the home of Mrs. Gorman, on East Third Street, accidentally fell down the stairs on last Monday evening and fractured several ribs. We are very much pained to learn of the death of Mrs. Nettie Compton Burns, aged 21 years, who passed away at the home of her parents, Mr. & Mrs. J.H. Compton, in Clyde, Ohio. The family and friends of the departed have everything to console and comfort them as Mrs. Burns died in the triumph of a living faith in Jesus. She felt fully prepared to die in peace with God and to enter into heavenly rest. Mr. & Mrs. Derrow were guests of Mansfield friends Monday. Master Earl DeHart has been visiting his grandparents at Ashland. Mrs. G.L. Miller has returned from her visit with relatives in the East. Benjamin Mace will attend the G.A.R. reunion at Sandusky this week. Daniel Norrick and Guy Yarnell were in Mansfield on business Monday. Mr. Briggs, our new shoe merchant, spent Sunday with his parents in Ashland. Mr. White, of Akron, was the guest of his mother-in-law, Mrs. O'Harrow, last week. Bert Stull, who is employed in the Steel Tubing Works at Shelby, was in town last week. Mrs. Thomas Weaver and daughter, of Prospect, Ohio, are guests of her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Amos Homan. Mrs. J. Berrow has been ill. I.N. Thompson was in town one day last week. Charley Manson rode over from Plymouth on his bicycle Sunday. Born, a daughter, to Mr. & Mrs. Henry Wirick. We extend congratulations. Prof. T.B. Weaver has accepted the superintendency of the Prospect, Ohio public schools for another term at a salary of $1,000. H.B. Case and wife, of Loudonville, passed through our town on Thursday of last week. Mr. Case has recovered from his recent illness and looks quite well. WIDOWSVILLE Misses Stella and Dollie Hart, of Hayesville, visited a couple of days with their sister, Mrs. George Smith, of this place. Mrs. Curt Welty and little baby are sick with the measles. Mrs. Elizabeth Bell and Mrs. Mary Robison were at Hayesville Tuesday on business. Mrs. Frank Harlin returned home after a short visit with her sister in Knox Co. Louis Smith of Hayesville, was in town Sunday evening. Jacob Weltmer purchased a new organ. Born to Mr. & Mrs. Lewis, a son, to Mr. & Mrs. Wm. Campbell, a son. Misses Nettie and Anna Culler visited with friends in Mansfield a couple of days last week. Miss Libbie Budd is visiting with her grandparents at Cario. COPUS SAND HILL Wm. Peterson Sr., Solomon Peterson, Wm. Wigton and Solomon Vail passed through this vicinity to Ashland on last Friday on a pleasure and business trip in a two-seated carriage. A.B. Miller, of this vicinity, and Miss Esther Boney, of near Lucas, were married on Sunday evening, June 9th. at Mansfield. Wm. Culler, wife and family, Geo. W. Bittinger and wife, went in a three-seated carriage on a visit to their brother-in-law's, R.B. McCracken, northwest of Mansfield, on last Saturday. MOHICAN Mrs. Ithamar Covert is lying seriously sick at her home, south of town. She is suffering with a complication of heart and kidney trouble. Mr. Johnson and wife, of Wellsburg, W.Va., are guests of Curtis Metcalf and wife. Mrs. Johnson is a niece of Mrs. Metcalf. L.B. Fox and family attended his father's funeral at Hayesville, Sunday. Wm. Arnholt and wife, of Sand Ridge, were guests of his brother, Mart and family, Saturday and Sunday. Charley Bowers' children have recovered and the quarantine has been removed. Miss Lou Stevens, living near Synagogue, is suffering quite severely with stomach trouble. |
