Mrs. Sprott is on the sick list.

A number of invited guests were pleasantly entertained with ice cream at the hospitable home of Miss Nora Singer last Monday evening.

Frank Singer came out from Shelby last week end and is stopping with J. F. Singer and family.

Chas. Helm came up from Smithville last Saturday and is stopping with the Bird of North Orange.

G. W. Pixley, wife and son Glenn, of Nova, and a Mr. Miller, of Harrison county, were the guests of J. W. Biddinger and family Thursday.

G. C. Phillips died of blood poisoning August 12th.  George C. Phillips was born in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, Nov. 28, 1827, and died at the age of 72 years, 8 months and 15 days.  In 1837 he came to this country with his parents and has remained here ever since.  He was a faithful reader of the Bible and was well posted in the same.  He was a kind and generous father and will be greatly missed by those who knew him.  He was the twin brother of Alexander Phillips Sr., and a brother of John Phillips, Sr.    In 1866 he was united in marriage to Mary A. Peck.  To them were born two children, Alexander, Jr., and Alice Augusta.     He leaves a wife and son.  The daughter died Aug. 27, 1883.   They have the sympathy of many friends and neighbors in this their sad hour of bereavement.  The funeral services were held in the M. E. church at Savannah Tuesday, August 14th, Rev. McCauley officiating.
