Armstrong, Sade - Miss Sade Armstrong, a young lady, twenty-eight years of age, residing with her parents in Green Twp., suicided Saturday, March 27. She did not come to breakfast when the others of the family sat down, and shortly after they had concluded their meal she holloaed [sic.] to her brother-in-law, Mr. McGuire, that she was dying. It was found that she had taken some poison, which in some manner she had procured. The following letter was handed to the family to be given to Elliott Heichel after her death. The family, however, opened the letter and kept it. Oh! Elliot if you only knew the heartaches this gives me to write these farewell words to you. I have tried so hard not to give up, and to be contented, but everything must have an end. I know I am to blame as much as you, but you promised me everything that man could promise a woman, but I hope God will forgive you as freely as I do for I love you as I could never love another. Oh, Elliot, I could never give you up while alive so I suppose it is better in every way. I know it is hard to take my own life but I have to do something. I could die for you as I have lived for you. Let God be our judge, not ourselves. Elliot, as I am about to leave this and enter into another world, you know and I know I have no promise of heaven but I hope you will not censure or blame me when I am gone. Think of me as one that loved you. You may find someone you love better but you will never find one that will love you any better. I never forget you for one minute. As God is our judge I have never told you a story about anything, but if you have listened to others and believed them, it is all right. I never expect to see you again. If you had treated me right while I did live it would have been easier to die, than to die uncared for, for I have always tried to treat you right. If I did anything that was not right, forgive me for I did not know it, but you will know I died with a broken heart, for I have never known a contented minute since Christmas. You have never seemed like the same person since. You had no right to treat me mean on others' account, or what they said about us. I could not help it. Your folks will be glad when I am gone and you are free to do as they want you to do. They have girls, you have sisters, but I hope they will never be treated as you have treated me. And now I give you my love, my love that will not die, although I tried hard to kill it. -- SADE to ELLIOT.Elliot, when you read this, the hand that wrote it, will be cold in death. I am dying for you to save you from any trouble. ASHLAND PRESS: 08 April 1880, Vol. XXXIV, No. 38 Submitted by Amy (no relation to deceased)
