Dr. Reibel was called but Mr. Naylor had passed away. It is believed that death had occurred before his daughter found him. Mr. Naylor had been at work as usual Tuesday but when he returned home in the evening he complained of having a headache and started upstairs to bed. He wasundressing when he was stricken. The cause of death was hear trouble. Mr. Naylor was aged 56 years, 8 months and 12 days. He is survived by his widow, one son Ralph, and one daughter Miss Lelah Naylor. Before coming to Ashland over twenty years ago, Mr. Naylor lived at Spencer. Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. J. E. He was found by his wife on the floor of his room upstairs, when she returned home from being down town. Mr. Naylor had also been down town and returned home about twenty-five minutes before Mrs. Naylor arrived home. Mrs. Naylor and son Ralph lifted the body from the floor and placed it upon the bed. The body was still warm, and a doctor was hurriedly summoned and when he arrived and made an examination he said he had been dead some little time, the cause of his death being pronounced by him as hear trouble. Mr. Naylor evidently sustained the fatal attack as he was getting ready to retire, for he had removed his clothes and placed on his night gown preparatory to getting into bed. Mrs. Naylor stated that, so far as she knew, he had never complained of having trouble with his heart, although during the day he had said to her that he had a pain in his head. He had also, atvarious times complained of stomach trouble, experiencing a sort of burning sensation, for which he had taken treatment Mr. Naylor had been about town on the day of his death, engaged at his work as junk dealer. To those who talked with him he appeared to be in his usual good spirits. Mr. Naylor was born July 26, 1856, and was therefore aged 56 years, 8 months and 12 days. He was twice married and had been a resident in this locality for about twenty-two years. Three children, Leila and Ira, and one son, Clinton, survive him, all residing in Allegheny, PA. Mr. Naylor was originally a carpenter by trade and also worked on a farm in Vermillion township. A number of years ago he met with a most painful and unfortunate accident which resulted in his left hand being so badly mutilated that amputation at the wrist was necessary. In some manner he got his hand fastened in a machine being operated for cutting corn fodder for a silo. Mr. Naylor was a hard worker, though handicapped as he was in his business. He was a good-hearted congenial and cheerful citizen and he had many warm friends who will miss him on the streets of Ashland and will be sorry to learn that he has passed away. The funeral will occur from the late home on the Hayesville road at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon. Services will be conducted by Rev. J. E. Comer, pastor of the United Brethren church of which deceased was a member. Interment at Ashland cemetery. Submitted by klynn. Mr. Naylor was born in Lake township in 1865, was a good boy in his school days as the writer well knows; as he was our pupil in our teaching years and he grew up to be a straightforward and honorable man. About three years ago he was married to Miss Sophrona, daughter of Robert Marks, Esq. His health had been failing for some time and last autumn he realized that he was in the grasp of that fell destroyer, consumption. Thinking to receive some benefit from change of climate, he went to Florida in November, but returned in about a month without having received any mitigation of his disease, and from that time till his death he suffered with fortitude and resignation. He was a member of Mansfield Council, S. O. A. M. and was buried on Thursday with the ceremonies of that order in the presence of a large concourse of friends, after a sermon by Rev. Warner, of Hayesville. He leaves a widow and child to mourn the loss of a kind and affectionate husband and father. The sorrowing friends have the sympathy of the community. Miss Anna and W. S. Naylor, of Holmes county, and Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Beaird and D. O. Naylor and wife, of Hayesville, attended the funeral of their brother, John Naylor, on Thursday. Submitted by klynn. Newkirk, died Sunday morning at 5 o'clock and was buried Tuesday at 10 o'clock. She was an excellent wife, a loving mother, a faithful friend and her loss will be deeply felt.ASHLAND PRESS: 15 April 1880, Vol. XXXIV, No. 39 Submitted by Amy Newkirk, Emily (Barber) - DIED -- April 11th., 1880, after a short and severe illness, Mrs. O.S. Newkirk, aged 60 years, 5 months and 10 days. Emily Barber was born November 1, 1819, in Stark County, Ohio, removed with her parents to Summit County, and afterwards she resided in Wooster, where she married Mr. O.S. Newkirk. After several years they removed to Jeromesville, thence to Ashland, where she died. Her husband and four children, of whom Mrs. Karth, of Mansfield, is the eldest, survive her. Early in life she united with the church and has proven herself throughout life a faithful member. The last Sabbath of life but one, she was in her wonted place at service and class-meeting, and spoke cheeringly of the light she had received this year in her Christian life. We little thought that dawning light would be so soon burst into full orbed day. In the social circle she was mild and considerate, claiming nothing, yet ever ready as she was able to do for others. The home circle will miss her presence most of all, for though kind as a neighbor, true as a friend, faithful as a Christian, she blended all these in the virtues of home life. As wife and mother, she was gentle, forbearing and indulgent. A very large concourse of sympathizing friends thronged the premises at the hour of service. A quartette rendered the music selected by the family, and the pastor spoke of the blessedness of those who die in the Lord. In the mild spring sunlight with buds just swelling into life, she was laid to rest, looking confidently for the resurrection in the last day, and life of the world to come through our Lord Jesus Christ.ASHLAND PRESS: 22 April 1880, Vol. XXXIV, No. 40 Submitted by Amy Newman, Jacob - Jacob Newman of Lake Fork, committed suicide Sunday May 4th., by drowning himself in the creek near that place.
