Quite a heavy rain fell here on Sunday evening which caused quite a bit of land to be under water.

Miss Gladys Gardener of Rowsburg has been staying with her grandparents, Henry Kopp and wife the past week.

Mrs. Ralph Rickel of New Pittsburg called on her sister, Mrs. Arthur Hadings on Saturday.

Merl Jones and wife returned after their honeymoon and are now visiting his people, John Jones and family.

Mrs. Emma Elchelbarger and daughter of Ashland visited Link Bishop and family over Sunday.

Ross Kopp has been on the sick list the past week.

Rev. Hartman preached at the U. B. church on Sunday morning and announced that in two weeks he expected Rex Hevlow, the former pastor to be there and preach, but for certain reasons could not make the announcement a certainty.

Clyde Mesmore's parents and sister and family of nearby West Salem visited him and family on Sunday.

Mrs. Clint Galloway, who broke her arm several weeks ago is getting along nicely.

I. C. Esbenshade and family were Cleveland visitors on Saturday.

On account of the heavy rain on Sunday evening the children's service at the Evangelical church were postponed until Saturday evening, July, 3.

An exciting experience came to Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Mesmore last Wednesday.  When returning from her people near Overton they were overtaken by a heavy rain and electrical storm.  They found refuge in the church shed near Eight Square and in a very short time their horse was stuck dead by the lightening, the shock of which caused Clyde to be unconscious for some time, having fallen to the ground as he was standing outside the buggy.  Mrs. Mesmore and the baby felt no shock whatever.
