The first annual reunion of the James Chamberlain
family was held Thursday at the home of the venerable Mrs. Sarah Chamberlain,
who is 91 years of age and resides just over the county line in Clear Creek
Township, Ashland County.
Mrs. Chamberlain is the relict of the late James
Chamberlain, who moved to Clear Creek Township from Clarksburg, Va., in
1812. Mr. Chamberlain was one of the first settlers, and helped to survey
and lay out what is now known as the Ashland and Norwalk Road. Mrs.
Chamberlain was born at Greensburg, Westmoreland County, Pa., and moved with her
parents to Clear Creek Township when she was but a mere child.
They were married in 1826 and from the union were
born 10 children who grew to manhood and womanhood. Of them six are
living, and five were present at the reunion. The children present were
John Chamberlain, of Monroe County, Iowa; Mrs. Mary Stout of Clear Creek
Township; Josiah Chamberlain, of Adario; Weeden Chamberlain, of
Greenwich; A.N. Chamberlain, of Olivesburg. Absent, James
Chamberlain, Jr., of Independence, Kan.
There were about 40 relatives and friends
present, who spent the day in feasting and social enjoyment.
The next reunion will be held at the same place,
the first Saturday of September, 1896.
