Firestone Family Reunion, 1880

The fourth reunion of the Firestone Family was held at David McConnell's in Ashland County, O., May 28, '80.

At an early hour a long procession of buggies came on the premises, all well filled with relatives from Indiana and Ohio.  Among these guests who thus put in an appearance were:  J.B. Roller, of New Lisbon;  Joseph Firestone of Fredericksburg;  Dr. L. Firestone and wife of Columbus;  Dr. J.B. Firestone and wife and Mrs. Lowry, of Larwill, Ind.;  Frederick Rice, wife and family of New Pittsburgh;  Alex. Allison, wife and son of Lattasburg;  Mrs. Annie Hileman and W.W. Hileman, wife and son of Wilshire;  David McConnell, wife and family;  Mrs. Elizabeth Firestone of New Pittsburg;  G.R. Buchanan, wife and family;  John Firestone, wife and daughter;  Mrs. Rebecca Firestone and two sons;  S.S. Firestone, wife and son -- all of New Pittsburg, O.;  Mrs. S. McCoy and wife of Penfield;  Mrs. Nancy Orr and granddaughter of Litchfield;  J.B. Smith and wife of Crawford;  Mrs. M. Wismore;  Mrs. C. Wethers and son of Huntington, Ind.;  Joseph Flory, wife and son of Bettsville;  John Ruffman and wife of Crestline;  John Rice and wife; Eli Snader, wife and son;  Luther Hiner and wife, of New Pittsburg;  Dr. D.E. Pocock and wife and J.A. Spotts and wife of Reedsburg;  D.R. Firestone, wife and son of Wooster;  S.B. Firestone, wife and daughter;  J.H. Firestone, wife and daughter, of Spencer.

The spacious rooms of the mansion and yard were soon filled with coming guests, whose social enjoyment was most pleasant and pleasing to all present, until the extensive table was well loaded with all the luxurious eatables the land produces, which the ladies of the house had prepared in the most delicious manner, which the guests can testify to the number of ninety that partook of the most sumptuous dinner.  After dinner the guests were entertained with charming music.

The President, J.B. Firestone, requested the guests to assemble together.  J.B. Roller of New Lisbon, Ohio, was called on to give the history of the Roller ancestors, which he did, going back three generations, giving dates and relating the hardships of the forefathers, which was appreciated by all present.

Prof. L. Firestone, of Columbus, O., was then called on, subject "Honor we owe to our forefathers".  The Dr. handled the subject with ease, giving the true light of honor to whom honor is due, and what has originated from our forefathers, which was highly appreciated by all present.

The entire Firestone family was present that are living;  five generations were present;  the oldest 73 years, youngest 52 years old.  Long may they live and may God, in his mercy, spare them all to meet again on earth, and gather the same happy group around His throne at last.
