Ashland County Ohio was formed by a legislative act on February 24, 1846.
Ashland County was formed out of Richland, Huron, Lorain, and Wayne Counties.
William Montgomery had laid out Uniontown in 1815.
The name, Uniontown was changed to Ashland in 1822.
Ashland City was incorporated in 1844.

The first Monday in April, 1846 the county seat was located at Ashland.
